NDRF Deploys Teams to Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu for Cyclone “Ditwah” Relief
In the early hours today, two NDRF teams comprising 80 rescuers and 04 canines, under the command of Shri P K Tiwary, Commandant 8th Battalion, along with specialized HADR equipment and relief material, departed at 0406 hrs aboard an IAF IL-76 aircraft from Hindon Air Base for Colombo. These teams carry inflatable boats, hydraulic cutting and breaching tools, communication equipment, medical first-aid kits, and other essential rescue stores to support search, rescue, and relief operations in cyclone-affected regions of Sri Lanka.
This international deployment from India complements NDRF’s domestic preparedness, where 14 teams are positioned across vulnerable coastal districts of Tamil Nadu including Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, and Mayiladuthurai, with additional teams earmarked for Puducherry and 10 more en route from 5th Battalion (Pune) and 6th Battalion (Vadodara) to Chennai.
HQ NDRF continues round-the-clock monitoring in coordination with IMD, NDMA, state administrations, Ministry of External Affairs, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless response both domestically and internationally.
