On 04th October 2023, a Lake Outburst took place due to incessant rains leading to the release of water downstream which resulted in flooding mamy districts viz. Mangan, Gangtok, and Pakyong of Sikkim and Jalpaiguri of West Bengal. The services of NDRF were called to assist the administration in rescue and evacuation work. In this connection 08 teams were deployed in these effected areas (06 teams for Sikkim and 02 teams for West Bengal).

The NDRF teams conducted FWR operations day and night and rescued 178 persons, evacuated 08 persons, retrieved 25 dead Bodies & shifted 710 persons to safer places.
